WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS:
APPLY TO LIMBS ONLY!
STEP 1: PLACE TOURNIQUET HIGH ON LIMB BETWEEN WOUND AND HEART.
STEP 2: PULL STRAP AS TIGHT AS POSSIBLE AND THEN FASTEN.
STEP 3: TWIST WINDLASS (ROD) EITHER WAY UNTIL BLEEDING STOPS. LOCK INTO CARABINER.
Additional Trauma Steps:
Run your hands over victim’s full body, checking for additional wounds. Apply more TQ’s on limbs if necessary.
Make sure victim’s airway is unobstructed and they are breathing.
Use any spare clothing to keep patient warm. Hypothermia can set in with blood loss—even in summer.
Follow up to make sure ambulance is on the way and continue to stabilize victim and look for others who may need assistance.
